What is it

A 2-part water based classic crackle varnish creating antique looking cracks. This Classic Crackle will actually sit or “float” about your project, not cracking it, just showing what is underneath for an antique or vintage look.

How to use it:

  • Apply evenly Component 1 over your dried sealed project. Remember to not over brush .
  • Let it dry completely, you will know what is it dry because it will be clear.
  • Apply Component 2 , again, try not to overwork it. The thinner you apply, the thinner the crackle, and thicker the layer, the thicker the crackle.
  • Let it dry, you can apply heat, but be careful.
  • Highlight the cracks with antique wax, liquid patina, etc,
  • Seal your project when cracks details are dry—water-based varnish is appropriate

When to use it:

For a traditional aged/distressed look on furniture, frames, canvases, mixed media projects. .

Pro‑Tips:

  • Seal with water-based varnish.
  • Cracks will run the way you put on Component 2. So depending on desired look, vary your brush strokes.
  • For a more authentic look, vary the thickness of your application of the crackle Component 2. Put on thin and thick in different areas so it creates varied sized cracks.
  • Recommend a softer brush for Component 2 so less brush strokes show.
  • You can tint the crackle if you want a fun look with pigment or mica.
